KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Head Softball Coach Greg Stewart announced today the addition of three junior college transfers, Cierra Barkis (Graham, Wash.), Amy Robinson (Grants Pass, Ore.), and Shayna Ige (Wahiawa, HI) to the 2018 Oregon Tech softball squad.
Barkis, a middle infielder, spent the past two seasons at Bellevue College where she hit .420 with 150-hits, including 18 homers, 34 doubles, and 87 RBI. She was a 2016 and 2017 Northern Region First Team All Star and 2017 NWAC First Team All-American Infielder with the Bulldogs.
“We are happy to add a player of Cierra’s ability and accomplishments to our 2018 roster,” Stewart mentioned. “She is a very good defensive infielder with great hands and athletic ability. She will be an impact offensively as she is a complete hitter that has power to all fields.”
Barkis will be an Environmental Science major at Oregon Tech in the fall.
Robinson, a transfer pitcher from Yavapai Community College, was 34-7 with 2 saves in 2016 as she led the Arizona Community College Athletic Conference in strikeouts with 233 in 250 innings pitched while only allowing 45 walks, with a 1.62 ERA. This past season, she was 21-5 with 4 saves, 110 strikeouts and only 27 walks in 154 inning pitched. She had a two-year record of 55-12 as she was named to the 2016 First team and 2017 second-team All-ACCAC, named 2016 and 2017 Division 1 All Region, and a 2016 Second-Team NJCAA All-American.
“I am excited to sign a pitcher of Amy’s caliber to our program,” Stewart said. “She is a power pitcher that could have a big impact in the circle for Tech next season. She throws hard and spins the ball well to both sides of the plate with good control.”
Robinson will be a Communications major at Oregon Tech in the fall.
Ige a middle infielder also from Yavapai Community College, batted .382 with 52 hits, 11 doubles, 26 RBI, with a .488 on base % and was 19 for 19 in stolen bases this past season.
Ige was named to the 2017 3rd Team All-ACCAC and was the leadoff hitter for a #5 nationally ranked Roughriders team that went 49-7 on the year.
“Shayna is a gifted infielder with great range and a plus arm,” Stewart mentioned. “We are happy she chose Oregon Tech to continue her education and playing career. She is a proven leadoff hitter in a tough conference who can really cause issues for other teams on the bases with her speed.”
Ige will be a Psychology major at Oregon Tech.
