LA GRANDE, Ore. – The Eastern Oregon volleyball team received the 2016-17 Team Academic Award by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA).
After a record-breaking season that featured 32 wins and a trip to the quarterfinals of the NAIA tournament, the EOU volleyball team proved to be successful on and off the court with a 3.47 grade point average last year. The Blue and Gold earned the accolade for the third straight season.
The Mountaineers are one of 51 NAIA programs to receive the award and one of just two from the Cascade Collegiate Conference. Southern Oregon also garnered the academic honor.
The AVCA set a new record with 822 recipients of the Team Academic Award, besting 2015-16's number of 764.
The award, which began in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that maintain at least a 3.30 cumulative team GPA.
The Mountaineers begin the 2017 campaign at the HIU/Vanguard Summer Slam on Aug. 16 and 17 in Fullerton, Calif.
