Eddie Ortiz Named Head Coach of WP XC/Track & Field Programs
PORTLAND, Ore. - Warner Pacific College has announced that Eddie Ortiz will be the next head coach of the Knight Track & Field and Cross Country Programs.
Ortiz arrives from Texas, where he has been an assistant coach at several universities and director of a club team in Corpus Christi. His most recent appointment was as a volunteer assistant xc/track coach at Texas Tech in Lubbock, Texas.
An accomplished athlete himself, Ortiz competed collegiately at University of Texas-Permian Basin. He was a four-year member of the cross country team, and set several records individually and as part of relay teams on the track. Ortiz was also as a standout member of the swimming team, where he was a 6-time conference champion and set several records in the pool as well.
Prior to his time at Texas Tech, Ortiz was a volunteer assistant coach at Bradley University in Peoria, IL (2015-16) and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (2013-15). He also spent six years as director of Elite Feet, a xcountry/road racing club team in Corpus Christi that provides training and competition opportunities for young runners.
Ortiz received his bachelors and masters degrees from University of Texas-Permian Basin.
