Eagles Earn Shutout in Season Opener

SANTA CLARITA, Calif. – No. 8 Northwest University got off to a good start to their 2017 season with a 6-0 shutout of Sierra Nevada College this afternoon. Katie Michkiosky scored a hat trick to lead the way for the Eagles with two goals in the first half and one in the second.
 
Playing on a neutral field at The Master’s University, NU’s Whitney Weaver put the Eagles on the board in the 25th minute scoring in the box off assist by Nadine Huff and Stephanie Wilson. Less than four minutes later, Michkiosky scored her first goal as she scored off a deflection to give NU the 2-0 lead.
 
Madison Morrow would give NU a three goal lead at the 29:30 mark scoring off teammate Allison Lorraine’s free kick. Katie Michkiosky would score her second goal of the day in the 33rd minute scoring inside the box off assists by Whitney Weaver and Hannah Nicholson. NU would take a 4-0 lead into halftime.
 
In the second half, Northwest U would make it a 4-0 game when Ashlee Evanger would take Madison Morrow’s pass and score with the clock showing 57:39. Michkiosky would complete her hat trick in the 70th minute scoring from the top of the box on Nadine Huff’s second assist of the game.
 
Kat Sanchez earned the shutout for Northwest U (1-0) in goal making 3 saves for the game. NU managed 27 shots while their defense limited SNC to just 3, all coming in the second half.
 
Sierra Nevada’s (0-2) Ashley Siwik took the loss in goal, but was stellar on the day making 14 saves for the Eagles. Paige Mahuka had two of the three Eagle shots on the day.
 
Northwest U continues play on Saturday taking on The Master’s (RV) on the Mustangs home field at 11 a.m. The NU men complete the doubleheader playing TMU’s men at 1:30 p.m. Both teams then move on to Lancaster, Calif., for a doubleheader with Antelope Valley on Monday, Aug. 21.
