TMU Blanks Eagles in Season Opener 8/19/2017 4:52:12 PM SANTA CLARITA, Calif. – The Master’s University held Northwest University scoreless as the Mustangs blanked the Eagles 5-0 in the season opener for both teams this afternoon on Reese Field. TMU scored three goals in the first and two in the second half for the win. TMU took charge in the first half out shooting Northwest U 11-3 while taking a 3-0 lead on goals by Luis Garcia-Sosa, Daniel Smith and Benjamin Tembo. Sosa got things started early in the 8th minute scoring inside the box off assists by Tembo and Leonardo Anjos. Smith put TMU up 2-0 at the 15:49 mark and Garcia-Sosa set him up at the top of the box for the score. Tembo then made it a 3-0 lead at the 24:02 mark when put a strike into the upper right corner on a pass from Daniel Smith. Eleven minutes into the second half, Dylan Bielanski scored unassisted (56:21) and Tembo scored his second goal of the game in the 77th minute to cap off the scoring for the Mustangs, giving them a 5-0 lead. The Master’s defense was tough around their goal as Northwest U managed just three shots on goal for the game. Daniel Christenson took the loss for Northwest U (0-1) in goal making 6 saves for the day. Chris Iacolucci led NU with 3 shots, one shot on goal, while Jack MacDonald came off the bench for NU and took two shots for the Eagles. The Master’s (1-0) outshot NU 22-10 with Daniel Smith and Dylan Bielanski each taking 5 shots. Benjamin Tembo had four shots, all on goal while goalkeeper Casey Phillips earned the clean sheet with three saves. Northwest U will travel to Lancaster, Calif., for their next game against the University of Antelope Valley on Monday, Aug. 21, in a doubleheader with the NU women’s team. Both teams will then head to Merced to play UC Merced before heading back to Kirkland next week.
