Evergreen Splits a Pair of 3-1 Results

DILLON, Mont. – The Evergreen State College split a pair of 3-1 volleyball decisions on Thursday, defeating Saint Francis (Ind.) in a neutral-site match and losing to host Montana Western.

One day after dropping a five-set thriller at No. 23-ranked Carroll, the Geoducks lost the first set to Saint Francis before rallying for a 21-25, 25-16, 25-11, 26-24 victory. Statistics were not available for publication following the contest.

With one match in the books, Evergreen returned immediately to the floor to face Montana Western, losing that contest 25-22, 11-25, 25-21, 25-22.

The Geoducks hit .266 as a team, led by the duo of Natalie Taylor with 16 kills and a .400 percentage and Bethanie Nelson with nine kills and a .389 hitting mark. Tori Wegdahl finished with 28 digs, Kathleena Ly added 12 more, and Matalasi Laban recorded 36 assists on her birthday to lead the way.

Montana Western hit .278 as a team and got 14 kills from Kelsey Potter.

Evergreen continues its Montana road trip with four matches in the Big Sky Challenge in Butte. The Geoducks play UC Merced and Montana State Northern on Friday and Lewis-Clark State and University of Providence (Mont.) on Saturday.
