SALEM, Ore. – The Corban University women's soccer team battled toe-to-toe with NCAA Division II foe, Humboldt State University, on Saturday afternoon in hot conditions, but the Warriors ended up falling to the Lumberjacks, 2-1. The match for Corban was highlighted, however, by a gorgeous free-kick goal scored by Marissa Telarroja.

"We played a very good team and we had to learn to be a little bit conservative today," said Corban head coach Likius Hafeni. "We started off very slow and turned the ball over, but we got better as the game went on. We managed to get a goal, but unfortunately we conceded a second goal. We want to play good teams and get better, and we are looking forward to playing Biola in the next game."
In the first 45 minutes, neither team generated too many quality looks at goal, and by the end of the first half, Humboldt State held a 4-1 shots advantage.
In the second stanza, Alex Jenkins volleyed the game's first goal in the 55th minute for the Lumberjacks, giving the visitors the lead.
The match stayed that way until Telarroja blasted a long free kick into the back of the net, finding the top-right corner of the goal on her left-footed laser in the 82nd minute.
Corban looked to have all of the momentum, but the Lumberjacks then capitalized on a mistake in the back from Corban, and Myriah Epino scored in the 86th minute of play to make it 2-1. That score would hold, resulting in Corban's second loss of the 2017 campaign.
For the match, Humboldt State held a 16-6 shots advantage.
The Warriors (0-2) return to the pitch next Saturday when they host Biola University (Calif.) in an exhibition match. Kickoff at the CFC Soccer Complex is slated for 12 p.m.
