FOREST GROVE, Ore. – Jesse Martin scored a golden goal in the 95th minute on Sunday evening, lifting the No. 10-ranked Corban University men's soccer team to an overtime triumph at Pacific University, 2-1.

"We improved our ball movement today at times with a faster tempo," said Corban head coach Aaron Lewis. "That ball movement needs to get us higher on the field now, and we need to be better in our defensive transitions moving into next week."

Playing on the road for the second-straight match to start the 2017 campaign, the Warriors went in front in the 26th minute of play when Alex Segovia used a nifty piece of footwork 30 yards from goal, and after spinning around the defender, blasted a right-footed shot into the top-90, putting Corban up 1-0.

The Warriors looked to make it 2-0 before the half, but were unable to do so, and the score remained a one-goal lead for the Warriors at the break. Corban held a 6-1 shots advantage in the first 45 minutes.

In the second half, it looked like on multiple occasions Corban would double the lead, but it ended up being Pacific that would tie the contest in the 83rd minute of play, capitalizing on a Warrior mistake in the back to make it 1-1.

The game would eventually go to overtime, and in the extra period, Jesse Martin found himself in on goal, and after beating the goalkeeper with the dribble, he calmly slotted home the golden goal five minutes into overtime. For Martin, it was his second goal in as many games with Corban, and marked his first game-winner.

On the night, Corban owned the 18-11 shots advantage, with Timur Zhividze totaling a team-best seven shots, Segovia recording four shots, and Rolando Velazquez notching three.

Corban (2-0) returns to the pitch next Saturday night when it travels to Walla Walla, Wash., for a match against Whitman College. Kickoff is slated for 5 p.m.
