Viydo Signs Free Agent Contract with Seattle Mariners
SEATTLE, Wash. - Former College of Idaho pitcher and student-assistant coach Mitch Viydo has signed a free agent contract with the Seattle Mariners.
The Bothell, Wash., native will report immediately to the M's spring training complex in Peoria, Ariz., and join their Arizona League affiliate.
Viydo pitched for the Coyotes during the 2014 and 2015 seasons, combining for a 10-4 record and a 4.56 ERA in 104.2 innings of work, adding six saves. The right-hander made 31 appearances in a C of I jersey, walking 36 men and striking out 77. His best season was in 2014, when he posted a 6-1 mark and a 2.80 ERA, while he also served as the Yotes shortstop in 2015 - hitting .328 with 18 RBI.
He has competed for the semi-pro Seattle Studs of the Pacific International League each of the past three summers, combining for a 15-2 record and a 2.63 ERA in 123 innings - leading his team to the NBC World Series in Wichita, Kan.
Viydo joins fellow former Coyote pitchers
Riley O'Brien and
Zach Draper in the minor leagues. O'Brien has been dominant in Advanced-Rookie Princeton in the Rays organization, posting a 1.05 ERA in 25.2 innings of work, walking just eight and fanning 25 - including five innings of one-hit ball tonight vs. the Bluefield Jays. Draper has a 4.66 ERA in eight appearances with the AZL-Indians, but has not allowed an earned run in his last three appearances, spanning 4.2 innings of relief.
