TURLOCK, Calif. – Stanislaus State (Calif.) went ahead in the 29th minute and tacked on two goals late for a 3-0 victory over the Southern Oregon University women's soccer team Thursday night at Warrior Stadium.
The Warriors (1-0), an NCAA Division II opponent, kept the Raiders (1-1) at arm's length throughout the night – out-shooting them 22-5, directing seven on goal to SOU's three, and maintaining an 11-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Off Sadie Montague's corner kick, Jenna Zuniga won a scramble to the ball and shot within the box for the go-ahead score. In the 77th minute, the Warriors scored via a Zuniga corner that Autumn Halvorsen came up with before finding room to fire.
The final goal came just over three minutes later, as Rayana Plancarte assisted Micaela Brewer in the 81st minute.
Alyssa Herrman was credited with the shutout.
Stanislaus was the first of three NCAA Div. II teams SOU will see prior to conference play. At 11 a.m. Saturday, the Raiders will visit NAIA foe UC Merced.
