SALEM, Ore. - Westmont scored a first half goal and made it stand up in defeating The Evergreen State College, 1-0, in a non-conference match played Saturday afternoon at the Corban University soccer field.

The Geoducks (1-1-1) struggled to break down the stingy Warriors defense, getting off only six shots and putting none of them on frame.

The team's two best scoring opportunities came inside the final 16 minutes. First, Kevin Elliott-McCrea took the ball deep into the Westmont end and passed to Jorge Villegas, but he couldn't get a good touch to the ball and shot wide. Then, with about 13 minutes to play, K'gnausa Yodkerepauprai rose to head a Martin Ramirez corner kick, but the ball flashed just over the cross bar.

Those two chances came despite the Geoducks playing one man down for the final 30 minutes following a second yellow card to a Geoduck player.

Westmont's Tyler Young scored the only goal of the match at 19:47, beating the defense to a loose ball in the box and slotting his shot just inside the left post.

The Warriors enjoyed a 17-6 advantage in shots, though Evergreen finished with a 3-2 edge in corner kicks.

Evergreen opens Cascade Collegiate Conference action at 3 p.m. next Friday when preseason favorite Corban visit Geoduck Pitch.
