SPOKANE, Wash. – A slow start hurt the Corban University women's soccer team on Saturday, as after allowing a goal in the first half, the Warriors were unable to recover, falling to Whitworth University on the road, 1-0.

"We struggled in the first half and credit to Whitworth, they played very well in the first half," said Corban head coach Likius Hafeni. "We pressed the second half and created a lot of opportunities, but unfortunately we could not get a goal. We want to redeem ourselves against Whitman tomorrow."

Whitworth's Annie Clark scored the game's only goal in the 29th minute of play, putting the home squad in front.

In the second half, Corban woke up and the offense starting generating opportunities, but it ultimately was not enough in the one-goal loss, as Corban was unable to find the back of the net.

Corban outshot Whitworth, 12-9, in the defeat. The Warriors also held the corner-kick edge, 7-4.

Corban (2-3) returns to the pitch at Whitworth tomorrow for a neutral-site contest against Whitman College (Wash.). Kickoff in Spokane is slated for 1 p.m.
