CCC Student Athlete Advisory Committee Attends Annual Retreat
LA GRANDE, Ore. – The 2017-18 Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) members converged on the campus of Warner Pacific College September 10
th for their annual retreat.
Established in 2013, The CCC SAAC serves the following functions:
- Discuss and provide feedback on conference issues affecting student-athlete welfare
- Assist in educating student athletes about CCC/NAIA issues on their home campus
- Increase and improve student-athletes’ understanding of the CCC and NAIA Legislative process
- Promote student-athlete participation in department wide Champions of Character programs
- Provide a forum for addressing student-athlete concerns
Leaders from each full-member campus took part in presentations by CCC Commissioner Rob Cashell, SAAC Chair and The Evergreen State College student athlete Cheyenne Baird. The group also heard updates about the NAIA Association of Student Athletes (ASA). Baird, and Southern Oregon University student athlete Ben DeSaulnier are members of the national group.
Tyler Monk, with the Portland Leadership Foundation, led an interactive session with the group entitled what is your why and why does it matter? The presentation challenged the group to think about their core values, how it affects their choices and how they in turn can serve as mentors to others in finding their true passion.
Also presented was information about service opportunities through a program called Champions of Charity and a digital platform, helper/helper that can provide the technical support for campus SAAC groups to effectively find partner organizations and track community service work.
