Multnomah fell to Providence (Mont.) 7-0 in the Cascade Collegiate Conference opener for both teams Friday in Portland, Ore.
PROVIDENCE (MONT.) 7, MULTNOMAH 0: Argos Overpower Lions in CCC Opener
PORTLAND, Ore. – Making the most of their scoring opportunities with seven goals in 10 shots on target, the University of Providence (Mont.) Argos overpowered the Multnomah University Lions 7-0 in the Cascade Collegiate Conference men's soccer opener for both teams Friday afternoon here at Delta Park.
Christopher Chavez scored two goals for the Argos in the first half, including the game-winning score in the 11
th minute. Christoffer Bisbo assisted on that goal, then scored one of his own in the 18
th minute. Luis Macias rounded out the first-half scoring as Providence built a 4-0 halftime lead.
Multnomah held Providence scoreless for the first 20 minutes of the second half before the Argos scored three more times to salt the game away. George Holloway scored twice in the period, and George Almeida concluded the scoring with a goal off a corner kick in the 84
th minute.
The Lions managed eight shots in the game, led by
Noe Favila's three shots, but Providence keeper Marc Girones earned the shutout by stopping the only two shots on goal.
Manuel Guillermo-Olivares had three saves for Multnomah while facing 18 total UP shots.
Multnomah fell to 2-3 overall and 0-1 in the conference, while Providence moved to 2-1 overall and 1-1 in the league.
