Eagles Earn Shutout in CCC Opener
KIRKLAND, Wash. – Northwest University was able to hold off a strong second half comeback bid as they edged Northwest Christian 1-0 in the conference opener for both teams.
Jubilee Zevenbergen scored the game's only goal and the game winner in the 21st minute as she took her first shot which came off the NCU keeper and scored on her second shot from 6 yards out. Whitney Weaver made the pass into the box and was credited for the assist.
The Eagles defense and goalkeeper Kat Sanchez then held off the Beacons as they pressed hard in the second half with Sanchez making 4 second half saves.
Katie Hastings made 8 saves in goal for Northwest Christian (0-3, 0-1 CCC) with the Beacons taking 11 shots in the game.
Northwest U (4-3, 1—0 CCC) took 21 shots led by Whitney Weaver and Jubilee Zevenbergen who each had 4 shots for the Eagles. Sanchez earned the shutout in goal with her 6 saves.
"We played well today, created a lot of opportunities, and on another day could've won by many more," said Bryan Chud, Eagle head coach. "All in all we are pleased to start conference play with a win and a shutout."
Next Up: NU hosts Corban University at 1 p.m. on the NU Atheltic Field Saturday.
