Collin Tate converted a penalty kick with 20 seconds remaining in regulation for The Evergreen State College as the host Geoducks and the Northwest Christian University Beacons battled to a 2-2 double-overtime draw in Cascade Collegiate Conference men's soccer action Saturday at Geoduck Pitch.

It looked like the Beacons (0-4-1 overall, 0-1-1 CCC) would hold on for a 2-1 win in regulation when goalkeeper Yayo Olvera dove to his left to block a penalty kick by Evergreen's Angel Trejo-Delgado. Olvera was judged to have stepped off his line early, however, giving the Geoducks (1-2-2, 0-1-1) another chance, which Tate converted by going to Olvera's left while the keeper dove right.

The initial penalty kick was set up on a Northwest Christian foul in the box as the Geoducks pressed for an equalizer.

With most of the first half action played in the middle third of the field, Northwest Christian got on the board first at 41:18 when Tony Alcala was in the right spot to smash home a rebound effort following Evergreen keeper Ben Stevenson's save of Blake Doran's shot.

The Geoducks knotted the score for the first time at 56:15 when Tino Panteleon was the first to get to a loose ball in the penalty area. His left-footed shot across the face of goal was just out of the reach of Olvera, and the score was tied 1-1.

With time running out, the Beacons took a 2-1 lead at 79:34 when Olisa Obianozie tallied his second goal of the season, scoring from in front after a nice bit of work by Sanad Elghanai down the right wing. Elghanai, pinned near the end line, took a touch and got the ball into the box for Obianozie to put into the back of the net from close range.

That led to the final frenzied seconds of regulation and Evergreen's tying goal.

After a relatively tame first half, the Geoducks ended up with 10 shots in the second half compared to three for the visitors, and that led to an overall 17-9 advantage for the hosts in that category. Corner kicks also went to the Geoducks by a 6-2 count.

Stevenson finished with one save and Olvera was credited with six, but he also benefitted from the corner woodwork when beaten by a Trejo-Delgado header in the waning minutes.
