Beacons Beat Geoducks on Two Second Half Goals
In a match played on even terms throughout 90 minutes, visiting Northwest Christian found the back of the net twice in the second half to pick up a 2-0 Cascade Collegiate Conference women's soccer victory over The Evergreen State College on Saturday afternoon at Geoduck Pitch.
Maggie McCausland was in on both goals for the Beacons (1-3-0 overall, 1-1-0 CCC), scoring the first and assisting on the second. She ran onto a nice through ball from Libby Gregory and hit a shot from 12 yards out back across the face of goal and into the far side net at 53:23. With the Geoducks pushing players forward in search of the equalizier, McCausland took a pass, dribbled past hard-charging Evergreen keeper Emily Sorenson and passed to wide open Sami Wilson, who finished from eight yards out at 82:56.
The Geoducks (0-5-1, 0-2-0) had scoring opportunities throughout the contest, getting off a total of 12 shots and putting five of them on frame, but they couldn't find a way past Northwest Christian keeper Katie Hastings. Evergreen also enjoyed a 3-2 edge in corner kicks.
Sorenson faced a total of 16 Beacons shots and finished the match with five saves.
Evergreen hit the road for a pair of conference matches next week, playing at Warner Pacific on Friday and Eastern Oregon on Saturday.
