Valencia's winner at C of I gives Raiders weekend split
SOU Sports Information
CALDWELL, Idaho – Southern Oregon didn't let the disappointment of Friday's Cascade Conference-opening loss linger for long, packing up a 1-0 victory over The College of Idaho on Sunday to bring home from Simplot Stadium.
Junior forward
Yvonne Valencia salvaged the road trip by scoring the game's only goal in the 64th minute. Moments after her corner kick,
Makena Totushek served the ball back into the box and Valencia eventually controlled it, punching in her second game-winner of the season.
The Raiders (4-4 overall, 1-1 CCC) secured their second shutout of the season by holding the Yotes (3-4, 1-1) to two shots on goal and only four total. It came less than 48 hours after a 4-3, double-overtime loss at Rocky Mountain (Mont.) in which they squandered a 3-1 second-half lead.
Hannah Ceciliani played all 90 minutes in goal for the keeper shutout.
Four different Raiders put a shot on goal. Valencia and
Aislinn Waite got off three shots apiece.
In 1-0 CCC games, the Raiders are 9-3 over the last three seasons.
They'll be off next weekend before picking up again on Sept. 29 at Northwest Christian. Seven of their first nine conference games will be played on the road.
