Knights Tame Lions in Four
PORTLAND, Ore. – Warner Pacific College took care of cross-town rival Multnomah University in four sets in front of a spirited crowd tonight at C.C. Perry Gym.
The host Knights (4-4, 4-4 CCC) secured the key conference victory behind stellar performances from
Janessa Mast (23 kills), Lauren Tennyson (10 kills, 19 digs), and a raucous student section that pushed WP to victory.
The outcome was not certain however, as the visiting Lions (2-11, 1-6 CCC) kept set one close, and then rode Emily Weidlich's serving to a big lead in set two. MU led the frame 16-9 after six straight points from Weidlich toeing the service line, and WPC could not recover.
With the match tied at 1-1, the Knights returned the favor and sprinted out to an 8-0 lead thanks to tough serving by Kealia Rosa. Later, with WP leading 11-6,
Alana Jennings put the frame out of reach by serving the hosts to a 12-0 run which included a pair of aces.
In the final set, the Knights slowly pulled away thanks to their best attacking of the night, swinging for 16 kills versus just two errors.
In addition to big nights from Mast and Tennyson, Rosa put up 38 assists and
Meghan Turner had 18 digs.
Patty Batoon led MU with 12 kills, while Miranda Halverson added 11.
