LA GRANDE, Ore. – The EOU men’s soccer team battled with Evergreen in the first half to keep it close before ultimately yielding an early second-half goal and falling to the visitors 3-1, Saturday afternoon at the EOU Soccer Field.
Three minutes into the match, EOU (4-2-1, 1-1 CCC) found itself in a quick 1-0 hole to the Geoducks (3-2-2, 2-1-1 CCC). Angel Trejo-Delgado found himself free inside the penalty box and fired a point-blank shot past junior keeper Aidan Wright for the tally. After a back-and-forth battle of possession, EOU’s last threat came before the half came in the 38th minute of a shot from junior defender Marcus Manuel which ended up being saved. Mounties at the intermission, faced a 2-1 deficit.
Evergreen wasted no time bumping its advantage to 3-1 in the 52nd tick. Burris received a cross in the penalty box from Jake Irwin for his brace. Down the stretch, the match became physical and four yellow cards were handed out. Junior defender Jorge Chavez was shown his second yellow, forcing the Mounties to play one man down the rest of the way in the 3-1 loss.
