No. 12 EOU Wins 5th Straight with Sweep of Northwest Christian 9/22/2017 10:36:29 PM LA GRANDE, Ore. – The No. 12-ranked Eastern Oregon volleyball team used a balanced attack of six hitter with at least six kills to sweep Northwest Christian (25-20, 25-21, 25-22) on Friday night in Cascade Collegiate Conference play at Quinn Coliseum. Senior outside hitter Amanda Miller led all attackers with 11 kills on the night and a .308 hitting percentage. Seniors Isabelle Statkus and Madisen Garlie each tallied eight kills, followed by sophomores Megan Bunn and Hailee Ackerman with seven and senior Emily Nay with six. The Mountaineers (12-4, 6-1 CCC) defense was also impressive on the night, recording 10 blocks and limiting the visiting Beacons to a .125 hitting percentage. Nay posted five block assists and one solo block while Statkus added four block assists. Northwest Christian (9-3, 5-3 CCC) got nine kills on the night from Claire Salness. Maci Beierle had a match-high 26 assissts, while Haley Damian posted 14 digs. For the Mountaineers, freshman setters Madison Pilon and Abby Smith combined for 33 assists. Senior defensive specialist Malia Mills paced the team with 14 digs followed by freshman libero Kiley McMurtrey with 11. The two teams opened the match with a back-and-forth first set with neither team grabbing more than a two-point advantage for the first 20 points. Up 12-11, EOU rattled off six straight points to take an 18-11 lead. Later and trailing 22-15, Northwest Christian scored four straight points to cut its deficit to three points. The Mountaineers responded, however, taking three of the final four points. The Beacons led by as many as five points in the second set and held a 19-17 lead late. The Mountaineers rallied to take eight of the last 10 points, capturing the 25-21 victory. Northwest Christian again got off to a good start, leading by scores of 4-0, 7-2 and 12-5. The Mounties then grabbed eight of the next nine points to tie the score 13-13. Later with the set still tied at 22 apiece, EOU took the final three points on back-to-back blocks.
