SPRINGFIELD, Ore. – Corban University won the Northwest Christian University Invitational on Tuesday, topping Oregon Tech by 38 shots.
The Warriors scored a three-round total of 877 to be just 13 strokes over par, easily out-pacing the Owls who scored 915. Corban’s “B” team was wedged in between, unofficially taking second place with a score of 894. The B team actually had the best round on Tuesday, scoring a 293 while the Corban “A” team scored 296.
A member of that B team, Isaac Calderon, also tied for the individual medalist honors, coming in with a three-round 71-74-70—215 to finish one-under par. He drew with Josh Goins (pictured) of Northwest Christian University (69-73-73—215).
Day one leader Chris Carew had an albatross on Tuesday, scoring an ace on the 182 yard par-three 16. It was the first of his collegiate career and just the second in school history. He finished with a 76 on Tuesday and his three-round even-par 216 gave him third-place and was the best 54-hole score in Yote history as well.
Another pair of Corban athletes tied for fourth place as RJ David and Devery Stewart carded matching 218’s.
The top-ten was rounded out with four Corban players and NCU’s Levi Dean in ninth.
In the team standings, Oregon Tech was followed by the hosts as NCU scored a 929, clinging to a two-shot advantage over Warner Pacific. Walla Walla took sixth and Multnomah seventh to round out the scoring.
