FOREST GROVE, Ore. – After playing back-to-back quality games against quality NCAA Division II foes and not getting the results it wanted, the Corban University women's soccer team registered its first win of the 2017 campaign, defeating Pacific University on Sunday evening, 2-1. For the Warriors, it marked the first time the team had played on the road in 2017.

"After two tough games, Pacific made us work hard for our first non-conference win," said Corban head coach Likius Hafeni. "The first half was even, but we dominated the second half and managed the game for the rest of the second half. We played another good team and were able to get a result, and we look forward to our next game on Thursday!"

Holly Martinez Moorman, the 2016 Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) Newcomer of the Year, found the back of the net early on Sunday night for Corban, heading home a free kick from Marissa Telarroja in the sixth minute of play. For Martinez Moorman, it marked her first goal of the 2017 season.

Unfortunately for the Warriors, Pacific went right down the field on the other end and scored less than 40 seconds later, tying the contest at 1-1.

Corban retook the lead in the 23rd minute of play when Annouscka Kordom combined with Martinez Moorman on a nifty give-and-go, and Kordom slotted her shot past the goalkeeper from close range, putting the Warriors back on top. For Kordom, it was her first score of the 2017 season.

In the second half, Corban hit the crossbar once, but defensively, the squad worked as a cohesive unit, shutting down Pacific while allowing just one shot in the final 45 minutes, leading to the 2-1 triumph.

Corban held the shots advantage for the match, 12-5, and the corner-kick edge, 6-4. Offensively, Martinez Moorman racked up a team-high five shots, while Lexi McQueary totaled three shots for the Navy and Gold.

Corban (1-2) returns to the pitch on Thursday evening when it travels to take on Lewis & Clark College. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. in Portland.
