KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – A night after falling to No. 25 College of Idaho in five sets, Oregon Tech (3-3, 1-1 CCC) didn't leave anything to chance as they swept No.11 Eastern Oregon University (7-4, 1-1 CCC) in straight sets 31-29, 25-22, and 26-24 Saturday night at Danny Miles Court.
This is the second time in four years that Oregon Tech has beaten Eastern Oregon when the Mountaineers were ranked in the NAIA Top 15. In 2013 the Owls beat then ranked No. 10 EOU 3-2.
"I'm proud of the way we played tonight and this weekend," said Head Coach Andrew Clifton. "Eastern put up a great fight and they are a wonderful team with a great coach. We will enjoy the win tonight and get back in the gym on Monday to clean a few things up."
Oregon Tech used a 5-2 run to close out the first set with an exhausting 31-29 win. Tech carried the momentum with them from the first set win into the second set using an 11-1 run, erasing an 18-10 deficit into a 22-19 lead. The Owls then held on for a 25-22 win. In the final set OIT went on a 9-2 run to open-up a 12-6 lead. EOU tied the set at 20 before Tech took 4 of the final six points for the set and match win.
Junior Chase Bohman returned from injury to lead the Owls with a game high 14 kills. Bohman had .324 hit percentage to lead the Owls to a .219 percentage while holding EOU to a .156 kill percentage.
Bailey Nelson added 9 kills along with 18 digs for Tech.
Jaime Toedtemeier had 21 assists for Oregon Tech with Waverly Green adding 14 assists and 10 digs in the win.
Amanda Miller and Madison Garlie led Eastern with 10 kills each.
Oregon Tech will travel to Southern Oregon to take on the Raiders Wednesday, September 6 at 7:00 pm. SOU upset No. 25 College of Idaho 3-2 on Saturday.
