Corban dropped a tough one against Oregon Tech on Friday afternoon in overtime.
SALEM, Ore. – The (RV) Corban University women's soccer team stumbled on Friday to Oregon Tech in overtime, 2-1. Despite holding a one-goal lead late on in the match, the Warriors allowed two goals to be scored by Oregon Tech's Cassidy Gosvener, resulting in the tough overtime defeat.
"We played very well until the last 10 minutes when our opponents got a breakaway goal," said Corban head coach Likius Hafeni. "It was very tough to lose the game in the last few minutes. We will try and go for a win tomorrow."
There was not a whole lot in the first half to be talked about, as neither side created too many good scoring chances.
The Warriors ultimately found the breakthrough when Emma Kosmala got on the end of a perfectly-weighted through ball from Annouscka Kordom, and Kosmala slotted it past the goalkeeper and into the back of the net in the 61st minute, putting Corban up 1-0.
The game remained that way and looked like it would end that way until the Owls broke in behind the Corban back line, and Gosvener finished the 1v1 breakaway, tying the contest in the 86th minute of action.
Gosvener then capped off the exciting comeback for the Owls in the first overtime period, scoring with just 30 seconds left on the clock to lift the Owls to the golden goal overtime victory.
Corban finished the match with an 18-11 shots advantage, but it wasn't enough in the end as it took just the two opportunities for Oregon Tech to win the match, and they were the only two that mattered.
Corban (6-4-1, 3-1-1 CCC) returns to the pitch tomorrow when it hosts Southern Oregon University. Kickoff is slated for 12 p.m. at the CFC Soccer Complex.
