Northwest Shuts Down Evergreen, 2-0
Northwest scored a goal in each half Saturday afternoon to defeat The Evergreen State College, 2-0, in a Cascade Collegiate Conference men's soccer match played at Geoduck Pitch.
Jordan Travis scored what proved to be the winning goal 19:12 into the game, heading home from close range followng a pass from Obi Esonu. The goal was the second of the season for the Northwest forward. Max Schellmann added an insurance tally at 76:32 for the Eagles (5-3-1 overall, 3-1-1 CCC), slotting the ball past Evergreen keeper Ben Stevenson after a Trent Siedenburg cross.
Stevenson finished with two saves as the Eagles put four of their 13 total shots on frame. The Geoducks had a tougher time generating an effective offense against the Eagles, ending the match with nine shots, two on goal. Daniel Christenson finished with two saves to earn the shutout for Northwest.
Evergreen did enjoy a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks.
The Geoducks return to conference play on Friday, Oct. 6, when they travel to Portland, Ore., to face the Multnomah University Lions. A non-conference match against Pacific Lutheran University, scheduled for Oct. 3, has been cancelled.
