NU's Audrey Saelens had kills tonight
Eagles Defeat Lions in Straight Sets
KIRKLAND, Wash. – Northwest University withstood a feisty Multnomah team tonight as they defeated the Lions 3-0 (25-22, 25-21, 25-11) in Cascade Conference play tonight in the NU Pavilion.
The Lions gave the Eagles a battle in each of the first two sets staying close and challenging right to the end. Northwest U gained the momentum as Audrey Saelens’ kill would give NU a 19-9 lead. Keann White’s kill would make it a 21-10 Eagles lead as they would go on to post their 12th win of the season and improve to 6-3 in conference play.
Keann White led Northwest U 12-5, 6-3) with 9 kills, committing just one error for a .667 hitting average. Audrey Saelens and Mattie Jo Johnson would each finish with 8 kills. Morgan Pilon led the team with 19 assists and Alysanne Van Dyke had 13 assists and 3 service aces for the Eagles.
Multnomah (4-12, 1-8 CCC) was led by Maile Kam’s 9 kills with teammate Patty Batoon adding 7 kills for the Lions. Marissa Rhodes had a match high 23 assists and also led the team with 10 digs. MU was held to .139 hitting as a team tonight.
“Tonight's match was a good test for us,” said Steven Bain, NU head coach. “Multnomah was well prepared and the played with poise and energy, which forced us to raise our level of play. I liked how our ladies responded to the test though and when the sets were on the line we maintained our composure and finished well.”
Next Up: Northwest U hosts Warner Pacific in another Cascade Conference contest tomorrow night while Multnomah travels to Olympia to take on the Evergreen State College.
