Pearson Scores Twice as Bears Down UC Santa Cruz

ATHERTON, Calif. – The Rocky Mountain College women’s soccer team completed its three-game weekend in northern California with a 3-2 win over UC Santa Cruz on Monday afternoon at Menlo College.
 
Rocky Mountain (3-1) trailed 2-1 in the 62nd minute after the second goal of the game from Olivia Stewart for Santa Cruz (1-2). The Battlin’ Bears notched the equalizer in the 64th minute as Lauryn Gamache scored on a feed from Yasmina Ennendm.
 
As the game headed toward overtime, Amber Pearson had other plans. The freshman scored her second goal of the day in the 88th minute to send the Bears home victorious. Pearson scored her first goal – the first of her career – in the 10th minute to give Rocky an early advantage.
 
The Bears finished the contest with a 15-9 edge in total shots and they managed eight of thos attempts on goal. Pearson and Gamache led the team with five shots apiece. Rocky took six corners and each team committed five fouls.
 
Maia Wetzel earned the victory in goal for the Bears with two saves.
 
Rocky will return to action on Friday when they host University of Providence (Mont.) in a non-conference game at Herb Klindt Field. The action is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
