No. 13 EOU Sweeps Multnomah in Home Opener

LA GRANDE, Ore. – In front of the home fans for the first time in 2017, the No. 13-ranked Eastern Oregon volleyball team swept Multnomah (25-15, 25-16, 25-13) on Friday night at Quinn Coliseum.
 
"I thought we showed improvements in certain aspects of our game that we have been working on in the last week," said head coach Kaki McLean Morehead. "I'm excited to see the growth from this team over the season. It was great to be back in front of our home crown in Quinn Coliseum tonight."
 
The defense was dominant all night for the Mountaineers, holding Multnomah to a -.073 hitting percentage. The Lions finished with 27 errors to just 20 kills thanks in part to 10 blocks by the EOU front line.
 
Senior Madisen Garlie led the block party with five block assists and two solo blocks. Seniors Emily Nay and Isabelle Stakus and sophomore Megan Bunn added three block assists each.
 
After a 25-15 first set victory, EOU dominated the second set with a 10-0 run to begin the stanza. The Mountaineers went up by as many as 14 points in the set, closing it out 25-16 with three straight points
 
EOU fell behind 3-1 in the third set, but rattled off 11 points in a row to take a commanding 12-3 lead. From there on out, the lead would not drop below nine points for the Mounties.
 
Senior Malia Mills paced the team with 12 digs, adding four of the Mountaineers’ seven service aces on the night. Freshman Madison Pilon finished with 15 assists and nine digs, while junior Sarah Carpenter added 10 assists.
 
Senior Amanda Miller led the way offensively with 12 kills and a .550 hitting percentage, recording just one error. Sophomore Hailee Ackerman posted eight kills.
 
The Mountaineers finish their two-game home stand on Saturday at 5 p.m. against Warner Pacific. Live statistics and video pay-per-view will be available at eousports.com.
