No. 7 Mounties Crush Multnomah 98-34 Behind Record Shooting Night 1/12/2018 11:30:35 PM LA GRANDE, Ore. – The No. 7 Eastern Oregon women’s basketball team shot a program-best 69.2 percent from behind the arc (in games with 10 or more three-pointers made), routing Multnomah 98-34 on Friday night at Quinn Coliseum. The Mountaineers (17-2, 10-0 CCC) led for all, but the first few seconds of the game as they won their 11th-straight game. The team made an incredible 10 three-pointers in just the first quarter with only one miss. For the game, the Mounties finished 18-for-26 from behind the arc and were 16-for-17 midway through the third quarter. The Blue and Gold improved upon their previous record of 66.7 percent (14-for-21) on three-pointers, which was set on Jan. 13 of 2007 against Southern Oregon. Senior guard Payton Parrish led the way in the three-point barrage with six made treys, recording 20 points for the night. Junior guard Maya Ah You-Dias was 4-for-4 from behind the arc, while junior guar Maren Herrud made three and seniors Mariah Swanson and Jessica Sexson each hit two. Freshman guard Jillian Albright was the sixth Mountie to make a three, recording one off the bench on her lone attempt. The Mountaineers are having one of the greatest shooting seasons in program history as they lead NAIA Division II with a 40.6 percent accuracy from behind the arc this year. They are shooting more than 2 percent higher than any other team while also leading the NAIA in free throw shooting at 84.4 percent. The Blue and Gold never trailed to Multnomah (0-18, 0-8 CCC) and led by an incredible 38-11 score after just the first quarter. EOU never took to the foot of the gas, however, outscoring the Lions in every quarter while holding Multnomah to just 12 points in the second half. The 64-point victory is the team’s largest of the season. Ah You Dias led the team with 21 points, shooting 7-for-9 in just 20 minutes. Herrud had 14 points and sevent rebounds, Swanson posted 12 points and senior forward Stormee Van Belle had 10 points and five assists. Senior guard Reece Bauer had a strong overall game with seven rebounds, seven assists, five steals, four points and two blocks. All nine players who touched the floor for the Blue and Gold played at least 20 minutes. The Mountaineers shutdown the Lions’ offense, limiting Multnomah to just 12 made field goals and 21.4 percent shooting. The 34 points allowed was the fewest by EOU this season. The Blue and Gold take its 11-game winning streak on Saturday against Warner Pacific. Tip off is at 5:30 p.m. from Quinn Coliseum.
