Evergreen Makes it Two in a Row Over Wolves
Ryan Quigley led a balanced scoring attack with 17 points on Sunday afternoon to lead The Evergreen State College to a 77-59 win over Walla Walla in Cascade Collegiate Conference men's basketball action inside Costantino Recreation Center.
The Geoducks (4-16 overall, 3-8 CCC) got scoring from 11 of the 12 players to see action in this game, with five players in addition to Quigley scoring at least seven points. Quigley led Evergreen to a 32-27 rebounding edge with seven boards and Pat Ling finished with seven assists.
Walla Walla (5-15, 1-9) was paced by Alec Calloway with 12 points and Michael Isotalo with 11.
The Wolves scored the game's first eight points and led by as many as nine points partway through the first period before Evergreen started to whittle away at its deficit. The Geoducks took their first lead of the game at 31-30 on a pair of Dustin Meade free throws with about four minutes left in the first half, which ended with the hosts holding a 35-34 advantage.
Evergreen opened the second half by scoring 11 unanswered points, five by Kevin Clayton Jr. and four by Quigley, including a thunderous dunk on a pass from Ling. The Geoducks led the rest of the way, building a lead as big as 22 points with 8:05 to play.
Evergreen shot 55 percent from the field (28-for-51) and was 6-for-12 from three-point range, while Walla Walla shot 40 percent overall (20-for-50) and just 24 percent from three-point line (7-for-29).
The Geoducks return to conference action next weekend when they play at Southern Oregon on Saturday and at Oregon Tech on Sunday.
