SALEM, Ore. – No. 10-ranked Southern Oregon women's basketball took advantage of early Corban miscues and second opportunities en route to a 79-59 victory on Saturday evening.
"I'm extremely proud of how hard we battled tonight without our three leading scorers," said Corban head coach Michelle Skyles. "Our younger kids grew up a lot tonight. We continued to have too many turnovers, but every player contributed something positive tonight."
The Raiders jumped ahead early in the first half, utilizing Corban's 20 first-half turnovers to take a 40-30 lead at the midway point. The lead wouldn't change hands for the rest of the contest, as Southern Oregon would ride their early momentum to the 20-point victory.
The turnovers would prove to be the story of the game, as the Warriors finished with 38 total, with the Raiders notching 34 total points off turnovers. Southern Oregon also made the most of second opportunities, tallying 16 second-chance points in the triumph.
Individually, Remi Mejia led the way for the Raiders, tallying a team-best 17 points to go alongside five steals and three assists. Toria Bradford added 15 points on the evening, while also collecting five steals and dishing out five assists.
As a team, Southern Oregon shot 36.1% from the field, and 31.7% from beyond the arc.
For the Warriors, Kendra Murphy led the way with a double-double, tallying 13 points and 10 rebounds. Hannah Shore also produced a solid overall performance, finishing with nine points, seven boards, and three assists. At the rack, Jordan Rasberry notched 12 points of her own on the evening.
"Kendra was huge, and to have a double-double was phenomenal," said Skyles. "Hannah played outstanding on both ends of the floor, and Jordan Rasberry was a force inside and kept us in the game early."
Corban out-shot and out-rebounded Southern Oregon (16-1, 8-1 CCC) on the night, finishing with a 45.5% clip from the field, and racking up 45 boards to Raider's 32.
Corban (9-9, 5-6 CCC) will look ahead to next weekend, when they'll host Eastern Oregon University and the College of Idaho. The games, which are slated for Friday and Saturday, are both set to tip-off at 5:30 p.m.
