KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Oregon Tech's
Bailey Nelson had a double-double to lead the Owls (14-8, 7-5 CCC) to a 75-53 win over Northwest University (6-13, 3-7 CCC) Saturday night at Danny Miles Court at the 9th annual Pinkout event to fight breast cancer.
The Lady Owls played one of their better defense games of the year, winning every quarter and holding Northwest under 31% shooting for the game.
Northwest took their only lead of the game at 2-0 on a Miranda Langenhorst layup. After that the Eagles never led as Oregon Tech took the first stanza 18-15.
The Owls increased that lead to 32-26 at halftime on 12 of 30 shooting.
Mariah Stacona kept NU close making 7 of 15 three balls for a game high 27 points but the rest of the short-handed Eagles team was 0-10 from long range and just 10 of 41 from the floor for the game.
Tech increased its lead 55- 41 at the end of the 3
rd quarter and took their largest lead by 23 points at 69-46at the 4:28 mark in the fourth period on a
Alix Biddington Layup and the cruised to the 75-53 win.
Nelson led the Owls with her double-double, 12 rebounds and 11 points with
Mikaela Shumaker dropping in a career high 15 points along with 5-rebounds and
Megan Morris and
Nohea Waiwaiole with 10 points each.
Oregon Tech will next host Evergreen State Sunday at 4:00 pm in a battle for the fourth and final home playoff spot each team is 7-5 in the CCC. The Geoducks lost a close game at Southern Oregon Saturday 79-72. Sunday will also be Hawaiian night at Danny Miles Court.
