Southern Oregon Men’s Basketball Named Team of the Week
LA GRANDE, Ore. –The Southern Oregon University men’s basketball team has been named the “Team of the Week” for January 22-28, the Cascade Collegiate Conference announced.
After dropping out of the NAIA top 25 into the receiving votes (RV) category the Raiders vaulted back into the national conversation with a weekend sweep in CCC action.
Tristen Holmes nailed a three-pointer with 1.1 seconds remaining in regulation to hold off the upset minded Multnomah Lions to secure the 83-80 win on Friday night. Down 14 points at the break, SOU opened the final period with a 16-0 run to claw back into the game. Connor Carroll led SOU with 19 points followed by Ben DeSaulnier with 18 points.
Unlike the December 29
th contest in which SOU eked out a 104-98 home win, overtime would not be needed in the much anticipated rematch with No. 15 Warner Pacific University. The Raiders scorched the nets shooting 61% on the night for the 89-80 victory. Kenny Meyer led with 23 points, four assists and three steals while Jordan Hunt had 19 points, six rebounds and six assists.
SOU (15-7, 10-3 CCC) currently sit alone in second place in the CCC standings and will host rival Oregon Tech on January 31 before traveling to Walla Walla University Feb. 2-3.
