May Scores 29 to Lead EOU Past Geoducks
Jordan May scored a game-high 29 points to lead Eastern Oregon to an 88-79 Cascade Collegiate Conference men's basketball decision over The Evergreen State College on Friday inside Costantino Recreation Center.
Pat Ling scored 27 points and dished out eight assists but it wasn't enough to prevent the Geoducks (2-14 overall, 1-6 CCC) from going down to defeat.
Ling was one of four Evergreen players to reach double figures. He was joined in that category by Shawn Spencer and Ryan Quigley with 14 apiece and Jaurence Chisholm with 12.
May's 29 points came on 11-for-15 shooting overall and 5-for-7 from beyond the three-point line.
Eastern shot 53 percent overall (34-for-64) and 37 percent from long range (10-for-27). All five of EOU's starters finished in doubles figures as joining May were Cole Ashby with 15, Austin Winegar and Max McCullough with 11 apiece and Peter Hamilton with 10.
Ling's opening basket put the Geoducks on top 37 seconds into the contest, but a May jumper gave the Mountaineers a 5-4 advantage and they never again trailed. They built their largest lead at 17 points with 9:32 to play before Evergreen made one final run at the visitors, cutting its deficit to eight points in the closing minutes.
Evergreen shot 56 percent from the field (32-for-57) and 44 percent from beyond the three-point line (7-for-16), and the rebounding battle was even at 30 apiece. While Eastern Oregon turned the ball over just eight times, the Geoducks gave it away 16 times.
Peter Eke came off the bench for EOU to lead all players with nine rebounds, while Chisholm paced the Geoducks with eight boards.
Both teams play conference games on Saturday, Evergreen hosting College of Idaho and Eastern Oregon facing Northwest University in Kirkland.
