KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Northwest University (3-5-4, 2-4-3 CCC) and Oregon Tech (6-6-2, 5-4-1 CCC) played to a 2-2 draw Saturday afternoon at the OIT Soccer Field.
"We worked hard today, but we fell short of the desired result," said Head Coach
Matt Munhall. "We have three games left and outcome will decide if we get to play into November or not. It's going to be a battle to the finish."
The pivotal minute in the game came with just 24 seconds remaining in the first overtime tied at two when Oregon Tech was whistled for a foul inside the box that gave Northwest a potential game winning, golden goal penalty kick. Oregon Tech's Senior Goal Keeper Gerardo Skews, playing his final game at home, came up with a huge diving PK save, preserved the tie, and sent the game into its second overtime and eventual 2-2 tie.
OIT took the initial lead in the 39
th minute as Benito Torres-Mata sent a 35 yard arching pass inside the NU box where Anthony Santillan settled the ball and scored past the Eagles keeper.
Northwest then tied the game in the 56
th minute as Jordan Travis headed in an Elijah Gordon pass into the top right of the OIT goal.
Oregon Tech then took a 2-1 lead when Torres-Mata scored inside the box off a pass from Jack Warner in the 70
th minute.
A flurry of action in the 83
rd minute led to the Eagles' game tying goal as Elijah Gordon hit a laser shot that was saved by Skews and then deflected off the cross-bar where Trent Siedenburg headed the ball into the back of the net to tie the game.
NU held a 14-11 advantage in shots in the game and a slight 5-7 edge in shots on goal.
The game was the final home game for nine OIT seniors: Skews, Torres-Mata, Clayton Maves, Kelly Kyllo, GeRysand Cabanilla, Lodewijk Bloemzaad, Trinidad Flores, Matthew Sai, and Victor Salazar.
Up next, the Owls will travel to Southern Oregon University next Saturday, October 20 at 4:00 pm
