Lady Yotes Earn Key 2-1 Win Over Northwest Christian
CALDWELL, Idaho – Goals from Madison Glascock and Maddie Brown helped the College of Idaho rally from an early deficit, as the Lady Yotes ran their home unbeaten streak to five games with a 2-1 victory over Northwest Christian at Simplot Stadium.
The Yotes (6-3-2, 3-3-1 CCC) dominated play throughout, but it was NCU that got the early marker as Hannah Best got behind the C of I defense off a pass from Jamie Figueredo and touched home a fifth-minute goal for the 1-0 lead.
C of I answered in a big way, taking 28 of the final 30 shots on the afternoon – breaking through at the start of the 15th-minute. Emily Aspden played a great thru-ball to Glascock, who made a 25-yard run before beating Beacons (2-9-1, 1-6-1) keeper Katie Hastings to the near post for the equalizer.
Hastings kept NCU in the contest, turning away 12 shots on frame – including point-black attempts from Erika Thompson and Bailey Watson in the first half.
The Yotes nearly took the lead in the 53rd minute, but Hastings made a one-handed save on a Watson header off a redirected ball. A minute later, C of I took the lead – as off a failed clearance, Brown collected the loose ball 30 yards from goal, raced up the right side, and drove a low shot into the left corner of the net.
The C of I defense did the rest – limiting the Beacons to just one shot in the second half – controlling possession and tempo for the win. The hosts held a 28-3 edge in total shots, and a 10-2 edge in corner kicks.
Sunday, the Yotes return to action, hosting Corban University at Noon.
