Corban Holds Off Upset Minded C of I
CALDWELL, Idaho – College of Idaho played toe-to-toe with the 15th-ranked Corban University, but Levan Zhividze's eighth minute goal proved to be the difference in the Warriors 1-0 victory at Simplot Stadium.
The Coyotes (3-6-2, 2-6-1 CCC) held an 11-7 edge in total shots – including multiple near misses – taking advantage of their opportunities against a possession-minded Corban side.
The visitors struck first, as Kohl Hurtado collected an errant ball in the attacking third, touching a pass on the counterattack to Zhividze, who touched home the eventual game-winner.
C of I nearly tied the score on multiple occasions – as a Lucas Thorne shot in the 39th-minute banged off the left post; an Ahmet Huremovic one-timer in the 61st-minute to the right of the 6-yard box missed just wide; while an Adnan Sose goal with 20 minutes left was taken off the board due to an offsides call.
The Yotes had a final flurry inside the final three minutes – getting a pair of corner kick chances – but Warriors (11-1-1, 8-0-1) keeper Jordan Salim used a diving punch to thwart an Ansel Brayton header and complete the clean sheet.
The match featured just four shots on frame, with C of I recording seven of the eight corner kicks.
C of I returns to action next weekend with key matches at Multnomah and Warner Pacific.
