A fiercely contested Cascade Collegiate Conference men's soccer match between the Evergreen Geoducks and the Providence Argos on Friday afternoon at Black Hills High School ended after 110 minutes in a 1-1 tie.

The Geoducks (7-3-3 overall, 4-3-3 CCC) were on the brink of taking home the win and with it a vital three points in the conference standings until the Argos (6-5-2, 5-3-2) scored on a penalty kick with just under eight minutes to play. Neither team would score during the remainder of regulation or through the two 10-minute overtimes.

Evergreen got on the board at 36:45 with forward Jayson Ray netting his first of the season following a nice move down the left flank. Midfielder Tino Pantaleon, who has missed a significant portion of the season with a hamstring injury, dribbled down the wing before crossing to Andy Zisette, who flicked the ball to Ray at the back post. The lanky freshman poked the ball past Marc Girones and into the back of the Providence net.

At the intermission, Providence had taken seven shots compared to six for the Geoducks, and that was a portent opf the balanced contest to come the rest of the way.

Evergreen goalkeeper Ben Stevenson kept his team on top by that one goal with a spectacular diving save of an Adrian Gomez shot with about 21 minutes remaining. That left it to the final minutes, however, when the Geoducks were called for a controversial penalty in the box, leading to an Alex William penalty kick at the 82:19 mark.

The evenly played match ended with Providence holding a slight 19-16 edge in shots and a 5-4 advantage in corner kicks. Stevenson was credited with six saves, while Girones picked up three stops in the Providence goal.

Evergreen closes out the home portion of its 2018 schedule at noon tomorrow when it hosts the Carroll College Saints at Black Hills High School.
