EUGENE, Ore. – If the first exhibition of the season was any indication, the run-and-gun Beacons will be putting on a fireworks show every night this season. The NCU Men’s Basketball team knocked off the semi-pro Seattle Mountaineers, 103-82 on Friday night.
In what was the first-ever home exhibition game for the Beacons, who usually travel to face off against NCAA Division I and Division II opponents in similar contests, NCU shot 58% from the floor and had three starters score at least 18 points.
Ernest Ugoagu (pictured) made his NCU debut with a game-leading 25 points, shooting 10-for-15 from the field with four three-pointers. Senior Austin Tyner scored 24 as he hit five three-pointers, adding five steals. NCU finished the night shooting 13-for-26 from three-point range and collected 15 steals.
Sophomore Tyrus Hosley did a little of everything for the Beacons, scoring 18 points with six assists and three steals. Freshman Zach Sly came off the bench to score 12 points, all in the second half, hitting a pair of three pointers.
The Mountaineers were led by Brandon Morris, scoring 26 points and eight rebounds as he shot 12-for-16 from the free-throw line. Isaiah Yanni added 15 points and Quay Hawkins scored ten. Joe Jackson led all players with night boards as Seattle out-rebounded the Beacons, 42-27.
The Beacons will be back in action on Sunday, playing in the annual alumni game at 4:00 pm.
