LA GRANDE, Ore.- The Eastern Oregon Mountaineers earned a historic victory, 2-1, over No. 10 Corban Friday afternoon in a Cascade Collegiate Conference game thanks to a Carlos Solorio brace.

The clash between No.10 Corban and Eastern Oregon was an action packed 90 minutes. Both teams had opportunities on the attack and made key defensive stops.

"It was a great showing from the boys today," said head coach Zach Mills. "The hard work paid off and they showed some real discipline facing the No. 10 team in the nation."

With Friday's victory, the Mountaineers secured finishing above .500 in the CCC for the first time in program history. In 2016, they finished with an even 6-6-1 record. The win also moved EOU one step closer to its first conference tournament berth, sitting in fourth place with just two matches remaining and needing at least one more win to secure a spot in the postseason tourney.

The victory is also the second highest ranked opponent EOU has ever defeated, previously beating Corban in 2015 when they were ranked No. 9.

The Mountaineers (8-3-4, 6-2-3 CCC) went into the break with a 1-0 lead. Senior Josh Goodman picked out leading goal scorer Carlos Solorio from 20 yards out as the junior chested it down before making no mistake, burying it in the back of the net.

The Warriors (11-2-1, CCC 8-1-1) came out with high energy in the opening 10 minutes of the second period and found the equalizer through Alex Segovia on a header to the back post. Itwas  Segovia's 5th goal this season.

In the 23rd minute, Corban goal keeper Jordan Salim made a critical save denying the Mountaineers the lead. Senior goalkeeper Aidan Wright put up a defensive wall in the net with nine saves, while Salim finished with three.

Solorio would end up the hero of the match when his brace put the Mountaineers ahead 2-1 in the 83rd minute. The midfielder once again chested the ball down between two defenders before volleying it in the net for the game-winner.

Before Friday, the Warriors were unbeaten in their last nine games, winning eight of the nine and outscoring opponents 17-2.

"This was one of the most important wins for EOU, and even though the season isn't done yet, these three points are crucial" said Mills.

The Mountaineers celebrate nine seniors playing one of their final games at Community Stadium on Sunday after the game against Northwest Christian at 11 a.m.
