Mountaineer Defeat Warriors 1-0 for 4th Straight Shutout 10/19/2018 11:35:03 PM LA GRANDE, Ore. – The Eastern Oregon women's soccer team defeated Corban 1-0 on Friday night in Cascade Collegiate Conference action for the Mounties' Homecoming game. The (RV) Mountaineers (12-1-2, 8-1-2 CCC) are unbeaten in their last ten contests, with their lone loss coming September 14 against Providence. The past seven times the Mounties have taken the field, they have held their opponents to just one total goal, or 0.14 per game. The shutout is EOU's fourth in a row and sixth in its past seven matches. "The ladies came out and played with a lot of passion," said head coach Jacob Plocher. "I thought we did a great job moving the ball around and played very composed. It was probably one of the most complete games we have played all year." Corban (7-8-0, 4-6-0 CCC) finds themselves amidst their first losing streak of the season, dropping three-straight matches to Rocky Mountain, College of Idaho, and now Eastern Oregon. They will look to finish their season strong in two contests with Multnomah and Warner Pacific in Salem next weekend. The only goal of the match came from star senior midfielder Taylor Boyer, who made a run down the right side of the field, beating the Warrior goalie far post with her right foot. The score is Boyer's 12th on the season, good for third in the CCC and just two back of the conference leader. The goal was set up by a through-ball from junior Abri Cardenas. The Mountaineers had more scoring opportunities, with EOU taking 15 shots, and the Warriors firing nine. Additionally, the Warriors were unable to put a shot on target against the strong Mountaineer backline, led by Josee Bassett and Chelsey Nicol. Both of these defenders were recognized within the last month with conference defensive player of the week awards for their efforts on the pitch. EOU continues to fight for the regular season CCC championship, which will potentially not be decided until next weekend. However, the first place Carroll Fighting Saints lost their first game in CCC play all year on Friday, by a score of 2-0 to Northwest. Carroll and Eastern Oregon played a 3-3 draw back on September 16. The Fighting Saints' loss means that every team in the Cascade Collegiate Conference has a loss in conference play, putting the regular season conference crown up for grabs. Oregon Tech, Carroll, Southern Oregon, and Eastern Oregon all have just one loss in the CCC, and are in contention for the championship. The final game of the regular season for the Mountaineers is this Sunday, October 21 at 1:30 p.m. against Northwest Christian (2-10-1, 1-6-1 CCC). The last home matchup of the year is also senior day at Community Stadium, and all seniors on the women's soccer team playing their final regular season games for EOU will be recognized for their hard work and dedication to the program at halftime of the men's game, which kicks off at 11:00 a.m. For more information on Eastern Oregon women's soccer, follow @EOUAthletics or visit eousports.com.
