College Place, Wash. – The Corban University Warriors traveled to College Place for a match against the Wolves on Sunday afternoon. The Wolves (0-16-0, 0-12-0 CCC) knew it would be a very stiff test, as the Warriors (13-2-1, 10-0-1 CCC) came into this match ranked 10th in the nation, and second in the Cascade Collegiate Conference.

The Wolves didn’t manage very much possession in the first few minutes, but were able to keep a good shape and play solid defense, containing the potent Corban attack. The Wolves were only able to contain them for so long, however, as the Wolves’ run of solid defense was put to rest in the 9th minute after Kohl Hurtado used a series of step-overs to create space for himself in the box, and powered the ball into the top left corner.

The Warriors scored again in the 22nd minute after exhibiting beautiful tactical possession which culminated with Corbin’s freshman forward Levan Zhividze crossing the ball from the right side of the box into Armando Lopez. Lopez slotted the ball home into the top left corner to give the Warriors a 2-0 lead. The Warriors went on to score two more goals in the next ten minutes, another one from Kohl Hurtado, and one from Zhividze. Following the barrage of good attacking from the Warriors, Walla Walla enjoyed a very good spell of play, holding the Corban offense in check, and putting a good amount of pressure on their defense. The Wolves were not able to get that lucrative goal, however, as the two teams went into the half with Corban up 4-0.

The good run of play continued for Walla Walla to start the second half, as they got two more shots on goal. It only lasted five minutes, however, as Corban got themselves the first goal of the half from Robin Terry. Terry ran all the way down the right flank unassisted, and pushed the ball past the keeper and into the back of the net. In the 61st minute Corban senior midfielder Alex Segovia added a goal to his one assist, and Walla Walla responded with three shots, two on goal, and one tragically hitting the crossbar.

Corban managed to rack up three more goals, two from Travez Whyte, and one from Carlos Llamosa, before the end of the match. Winning it by a score of 9-0 over the Wolves.

The Wolves’ next matchup pits them against Eastern Oregon University (9-3-4, 7-2-3 CCC) on October 28 at 1:00p.m. in what will be the final match of their season.

Corban University now looks ahead to a matchup against Multnomah University (4-11, 2-9 CCC) on Friday, October 26th at 4:30p.m.
