Warrior Men’s Hoops Soars Past New Hope in 93-52 Victory

SALEM, Ore. – While riding a 58-point second-half outburst, the Corban University men's basketball team soared past New Hope Christian College on Friday evening, 93-52.

"It was a tale of two halves," said Corban head coach Mitch Freeman. "New Hope did a great job of taking us out of how we wanted to play and it forced us to take tough shots. We were able to move the ball and create rhythm plays in the second half. This was a game with adversity that we desperately needed."

Up by just four points at the halftime break, the Warriors absolutely dominated the second stanza, turning that four-point lead into a 40-point advantage rather quickly, scoring at will on the offensive end while locking down defensively and forcing New Hope into tough shots.

By the end of the game, Corban finished with a 50.7% shooting mark thanks to a 58.54% shooting effort in the final 20 minutes. Defensively, Corban held the Deacons to just a 29.0% effort from the floor, allowing just 18 total made shots for the visitors.

One of the biggest differences on the night was down low, as the Warriors racked up 62 boards to just 22 for New Hope, and it was Corban's big men getting it down on the blocks. Joel Johnson was an absolute force inside, going 9-for-9 from the floor with 19 points and five boards, while Beau Tilleman went 10-for-12 overall with a team-leading 20 points. In addition, Beau Roggenbach totaled 15 points in the victory to go along with a team-leading 12 boards.

For New Hope (0-3) in the defeat, Jaylen Rose tallied a team-leading 14 points.

In the first game of the night at the PT Northwest Classic, Northwest University (Wash.) defeated Capilano University (Canada), 91-66. Northwest will take on New Hope Christian on Saturday at 5:30 p.m.

Corban (2-0) returns to the court on Saturday evening against Capilano. Tipoff for the final game of the PT Northwest Classic is slated for 7:30 p.m.
