Cinac Scores Twice, Yotes Earn Big 3-0 Victory
CALDWELL, Idaho – Bekir Cinac scored two goals and Jack O'Leary added two helpers, as the College of Idaho remained alive in the Cascade Conference postseason picture with a convincing 3-0 victory over Northwest University at Simplot Stadium.
The Yotes (6-6-2, 5-6-1 CCC) won their third in a row and their fourth match in five outings - using a 16-8 edge in total shots and piling up 11 corner kick chances.
C of I had the run of the pitch early – with goals by Ahmet Huremovic and Cinac wiped off the board due to offside calls. The Eagles (3-8-4, 2-7-3) had their best chance in the 35th minute, as a Trent Siedenberg shot was stopped by an outstretched dive from Coyote keeper Zach Dean – with the flurry nullified by an offsides flag.
Cinac got the Yotes on the board at the start of the 38th minute – intercepting a failed clearance by the NU defense, taking two dribbles and slotting home a low strike into the right corner of the goal.
The hosts tacked on two insurance goals in a three minute span midway through the second half – as O'Leary played a low cross from the right side into the area, with Jacob Hurter one-timing a shot into the right corner of the net. Moments later, O'Leary found Cinac at the top of the 6-yard-box, hitting a low shot through traffic into the left corner of the goal.
Dean turned away three shots on frame for the clean sheet.
C of I closes out the regular season on Sunday, hosting Evergreen at Noon. The Yotes can clinch a postseason berth with a victory and a loss or draw by Warner Pacific.
