SPRINGFIELD, Ore. – Alex Saldana found the back of the net in the 84th minute, propelling the Warner Pacific men’s basketball team to a 2-1 victory over NCU on Friday afternoon. The victory pushes the Knights into a three-way tie for eighth-place in the Cascade Collegiate Conference with just one game remaining in the regular season.
Northwest Christian (3-12-1, 2-9-1 CCC) dominated the early goings, holding an 11-2 shot advantage in a scoreless first half.
The Knights broke up the tie in the 52nd minute as Octavio headed home the goal from a Kingsley Armah cross.
Just five minutes later, NCU tied the game once again when Jovany Sanchez launched a 25-yard bomb from the right, sailing into the upper left V.
The Beacons ended the night with a 20-13 shot advantage. The teams were equal with seven shots-on-goal each. Juan Inzunza made six saves in victory while NCU’s Julian Hernandez recorded five saves in defeat.
NCU will close out their season on Saturday at 4:30 pm as they play host to Multnomah University. The Beacons will honor eight seniors in a pre-game ceremony.
