The senior night victory locks the Warriors into the eight seed of the upcoming Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) tournament.
SALEM, Ore. – It was in just the 4th minute of play that Warrior center back Macy Goodwin snuck her first goal of the season past the Warner Pacific University goalkeeper to give the Corban University women's soccer team an early 1-0 lead on senior night. The goal would turn out to be all the scoring the Navy and Gold would need, with Corban prevailing by the same score as time expired on the 2018 regular season.
"It was a great win on senior night!" said head coach Likius Hafeni. "We wanted to score first, and we managed to get an early goal which helped us be in control of the game. We kept possession of the ball very well, and we created a lot of opportunities. Our goal was to play smart and win to ensure we made the playoffs, and we are happy that we have achieved that goal!"
Prior to the victory, Corban took a moment to recognize the team's seven seniors playing in their final home regular-season games in a Navy and Gold uniform, with friends and family on hand to witness the triumph.
After Goodwin gave the Warriors the early advantage, it was up to the Elizabeth Brock and the Corban backline to hold the lead and preserve the shutout. Brock was steady in goal, as Warrior fans have become accustomed to seeing, tallying seven saves. Corban's defensive core—which featured a contingent of veterans, such as Makael de Hoop, Hope Frye, and Alizabeth Bigger—was equally impressive, consistently quelling the Knights' attack.
The victory locks the Warriors into the eight seed of the Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) tournament, which is set to take place on November 7-10 in Springfield, Ore. Stay tuned at CorbanWarriors.com for up-to-date news on the postseason schedule and match-ups.
