Lady Yotes Earn Senior Day Shutout
CALDWELL, Idaho – The College of Idaho sent their 12 seniors out in style, closing out the regular season with a 1-0 victory over The Evergreen State College at Simplot Stadium.
A second half goal from freshman Alexa Rierson was the difference in a match where the Lady Yotes (10-4-2, 7-4-1 CCC) held a 17-3 edge in total shots and took all six corner kicks.
The win helped C of I clinch the No. 6 seed in the Cascade Conference Championships, meeting Oregon Tech in a quarterfinal match-up on Nov. 7 at 2 p.m. (PT)
The Yotes had the run of the pitch in the first half – creating numerous opportunities, including a Lexie Hibler 1-on-1 chance late in the period – but Geoducks (3-14, 2-10) keeper Megan Breckenridge stuffed all four shots on frame.
C of I picked up the intensity early in the second half – with Hibler making a nice move on the right side of the pitch, playing a low cross to the unmarked Rierson, who drove a low shot into the left corner of the net.
It was all the C of I defense needed, as Shae Waters just two shots on goal – both from 25-yards-out – to earn the clean sheet.
It was the final home game for seniors Erika Thompson, Jocelyn Cook-Cox, Kiana Garcia, Jaelyn Yizar, Bailey Watson, Morgan Childs, Hannah Coverley, Megan Aumeier, Maddie Brown, Lauren Bridge and Emily Aspden. All 28 players in uniform saw game action in the victory.
