Red Lion Players of the Week Announced

The following CCC student-athletes have been recognized as Red Lion Players of the Week for their performances during the period October 22-28.
Volleyball-Attacker
Oregon Tech’s Chase Bohman has been chosen as the Red Lion volleyball Attacker of the Week.
Bohman had an outstanding offensive weekend for the Owls, racking up 44 kills between two matches for Oregon Tech. The senior from Creswell, Ore. averaged 5.50 kills per game, and now ranks second in the NAIA in kills per game (4.6) and 19th in the NAIA in total kills (399).

Volleyball-Defender
Drew Dobney of College of Idaho has been named the Red Lion volleyball Defender of the Week.
Dobney has been outstanding on defense all year for the No. 16-ranked Yotes, with this weekend proving no exception. The sophomore out of Vale, Ore. had a career-high 30 digs in the team’s match against Northwest Christian, while adding 23 to lead her team in College of Idaho’s big win over (RV) Corban.

Volleyball-Setter
Jaime Toedtemeier of Oregon Tech has been named the Red Lion volleyball Setter of the Week.
Toedtemeier, a sophomore hailing from Clackamas, Ore., had an outstanding weekend as Oregon Tech’s offensive distributor, dishing out a total of 83 assists between the squad’s two matches. Toedtemeier averaged 10.38 assists per game over the weekend, including 11 assists per game in the team’s heartbreaking five-set loss against Evergreen.

Women’s Soccer-Defense
Carroll’s Devan Murfitt has been chosen as the Red Lion women’s soccer Defensive Player of the Week.
After earning Honorable Mention recognition in the category in last week’s nominations, Murfitt claims this week’s Defensive Player of the Week nod following her impressive performance in Carroll’s weekend sweep. The senior goalkeeper kept two clean sheets over the weekend, helping the Fighting Saints earn a share of the CCC regular-season title.

Women’s Soccer-Offense
Katie Michkiosky of Northwest has been named the Red Lion women’s soccer Offensive Player of the Week.
Michkiosky, a senior out of Wenatchee, Wash., tied Northwest’s school record for single-season goals after netting her 18th over the weekend. After converting the game-winner with just four seconds to go in the team’s match against College of Idaho, Michkiosky delivered a brace on the following day against Rocky Mountain.

Men’s Soccer-Offense
Jose Porras of Carroll has been named the Red Lion men’s soccer Offensive Player of the Week.
Porras, in his final season for the Fighting Saints, was a key contributor in each of Carroll’s two games over the weekend. The senior forward from Las Alturas, Guatemala delivered a brace in the team’s dominating 4-0 victory over Oregon Tech, while also being an active presence in creating opportunities in the team’s match against Southern Oregon the next day.

Men’s Soccer-Defense
College of Idaho’s Zach Dean has been named the Red Lion men’s soccer Defensive Player of the Week.
Dean, getting his first two starts of the 2018 season, was outstanding in goal for the Yotes. The rookie keeper from Meridian, Idaho combined for eight saves between the team’s two matches, while also collecting a 3-0 shutout victory over Northwest in his first start of the year.

Men’s Wrestling
Eastern Oregon’s Marco Retano has been named the Red Lion men’s Wrestler of the Week.
Retano claimed victories in each of his opening matches in the 2018 season, winning CCC-duals at Montana State-Northern and Providence. The sophomore from Culver, Ore. first defeated No. 12-ranked Steeler French by a thrilling 5-4 decision, and then defeated Providence’s Alex Quick by a 7-4 decision.

Men’s Golf
Walla Walla’s Brendan Collins has been named the Red Lion men’s Golfer of the Week.
Collins, a senior out of Sacramento, Calif., delivered a record-setting tournament performance for the Wolves. He became the first-ever gold medalist for the Walla Walla men’s golf program, claiming the individual title with his 6-under 144 performance at the Walla Walla CC Tournament. The victory is Collins’ first individual title, and his 67-stroke performance in round two becomes his new personal best.

Men’s Basketball
Northwest’s Hussayn Ford has been named the Red Lion men’s basketball Player of the Week.
Ford, a junior from Seattle, Wash., kicked off his career with Northwest in dominant fashion, racking up a pair of double-doubles to start the 2018-19 season. After tallying 14 points and 10 boards against Capilano in the Eagles’ season-opener, he produced a 20-point, 12-rebound performance on the following day against New Hope Christian, despite only playing a total of 39 minutes over the course of both games.

Women’s Basketball
Sam Van Loo of Northwest has been named the Red Lion women’s basketball Player of the Week.
Van Loo, competing in the first games of her collegiate career, came out of the gates strong in the 2018-19 season. The 6-2 forward out of Lynden, Wash. shot 40% from the field in the team’s game against Providence, finishing with 10 points and 10 rebounds for her first career double-double for Northwest. She also added a pair of blocks and a steal for the Eagles.
