Red Lion Players of the Week Announced

The following CCC student-athletes have been recognized as Red Lion Players of the Week for their performances during the period October 1-7.
Volleyball-Attacker
Taylor Alexander of College of Idaho has been chosen as the Red Lion volleyball Attacker of the Week.
Alexander, a senior from Ontario, Ore., was the top hitter for the No. 16-ranked Lady Yotes over the weekend, propelling College of Idaho to a crucial sweep of No. 10-ranked Southern Oregon and Oregon Tech on the road. Alexander was a force to be reckoned with at the net, totaling 35 kills and notching eight block assists between the two matches.

Volleyball-Defender
Jackie Van Vliet of College of Idaho has been named the Red Lion volleyball Defender of the Week.
In what was an impressive road swing for the College of Idaho volleyball team, Van Vliet had a milestone weekend of her own for the Lady Yotes. The senior from Twin Falls, Idaho had 12 block assists and two solo blocks over the course of the team’s two triumphs, while also notching 25 kills. Van Vliet becomes just the third player in College of Idaho history and the sixth CCC player of all time to reach 500 career blocks.

Volleyball-Setter
Kealia Rosa of Warner Pacific has been named the Red Lion volleyball Setter of the Week.
Rosa, an Honorable Mention in last week’s awards, earns Setter of the Week honors after an impressive weekend for the Knights. The senior from Portland, Ore. was integral in Warner Pacific’s five-set triumph over Northwest Christian and the team’s near upset of Corban, averaging 10 assists per set over the weekend. Rosa also contributed 17 digs on the defensive end, and added a pair of service aces in the two-game split.

Women’s Soccer-Defense
Oregon Tech’s Amy Morikawa has been chosen as the Red Lion women’s soccer Defensive Player of the Week.
Morikawa earns Defensive Player of the Week honors following a pair of big performances for the Lady Owls over the course of the team’s dominating weekend sweep. Earning two shutouts on the road, Oregon Tech’s back line was outstanding, holding opponents to just three shots over the span of both games. Morikawa, a sophomore from Fullerton, Calif., helped anchor the Lady Owls’ defense as the team set a school-record with its fourth-straight CCC shutout.

Women’s Soccer-Offense
Southern Oregon’s Misty Martinez has been named the Red Lion women’s soccer Offensive Player of the Week.
After a strong performance last weekend that earned her Honorable Mention recognition in the category, Martinez claims Offensive Player of the Week honors with another tremendous effort in this week’s Raiders’ road sweep. The sophomore from Petaluma, Calif. found the back of the net three times against Multnomah and Warner Pacific, and has now registered three game-winners in a row for Southern Oregon.

Men’s Soccer-Offense
Northwest’s Jordan Travis has been named the Red Lion men’s soccer Offensive Player of the Week.
Travis was invaluable for the Eagles’ attack throughout the weekend, serving as the lone source of scoring by providing both goals in Northwest’s 2-2 draw against Eastern Oregon. The junior from Bothell, Wash. then added another goal in the squad’s 4-2 victory over Walla Walla, while also adding a pair of assists.

Men’s Soccer-Defense
Tulio Melo of Rocky Mountain has been named the Red Lion men’s soccer Defensive Player of the Week.
Melo was impressive on both sides of the ball over the course of No. 13-ranked Rocky Mountain’s weekend sweep. The senior midfielder from Minas Gerais, Brazil provided an assist on the Battlin’ Bears’ game-winning goal against Carroll, and drew first blood with a goal of his own in the team’s win over Providence, all while producing a solid defensive performance from the back line.

Women’s Cross Country
College of Idaho’s Kaitlyn Schut has been named the Red Lion women’s cross country Runner of the Week.
Schut paced the No. 8-ranked Lady Yotes at the Steven Reeder Memorial in Utah, hosted by Utah State University. The senior from Eagle, Idaho finished the 5K with a time of 19:35, taking 21st individually and helping College of Idaho to a fourth-place finish as a unit.

Men’s Cross Country
Alex Martin of College of Idaho has been named the Red Lion men’s cross country Runner of the Week.
Martin, a junior out of Bend, Ore., spearheaded the No. 4-ranked College of Idaho men’s cross country team at the Steven Reeder Memorial on Friday, finishing in 8th place individually with his time of 22:00 in the 7K. Martin’s performance was the best of all participants not competing for NCAA Division 1 program Brigham Young University (BYU).

Men’s Golf
Corban Isaac Calderon has been named the Red Lion men’s Golfer of the Week.
Calderon paced the Corban University men’s golf team in what would prove to be a record-setting tournament for the Warriors at the Battlin’ Bears Invite. Finishing at 6-under par across all three rounds (72, 68, 67), the junior from La Quinta, Calif. claimed ninth overall as an individual. As a team, Corban tied for second with a school-record three-round mark of 8-under par 844.
